The NBA Hosted their annual All Star Saturday Night as part of All Star Weekend from Houston this past weekend. In the past we have seen Michael Jordan win back to back Slam Dunk competitions and Larry Bird win back to back to back 3 point competitions in the past. This weekend may have been about the emergence of Kyrie Irving and Kenneth Faried.
3 – Point Contest Winner: Kyrie Irving, Cleveland Cavaliers.
Australian born Irving walked away the winner of the 2013 3 point contest after a blistering 23 point showing in the championship round against the “Red-Mamba” Matt Bonner who could only manage 20. This year’s field was strong with the inclusions Steph Curry, Paul George, Steve Novak and Ryan Anderson.
Slam Dunk Contest winner: Terrence Ross, Toronto Raptors
The competition was split into East vs West and initially the East dominated. Each dunker from the West was disappointing, their dunks were uninspiring and boring. It took Utah’s Jeremy Evan’s first dunk in the final round before things got interesting as he jumped a easel which he would later reveal as a painting of himself winning last years dunk competition. Terrence Ross’ first dunk in the finals was a Vince Carter tribute dunk followed by a between the legs dunk starting behind the backboard out of bounds.
