Camby Traded to Houston

Marcus Camby

I know what you’re thinking, “This trade is barely newsworthy, what are you thinking doing a story on it?”. On the scale of big off-season trades, it hardly rates. On a scale of 1 to Dwight, I’d give it a 2… just. But bear with me.

I think this trade has a chance to be huge for the Rockets. It gives them something that all the great teams have. Depth. Throughout the season injuries happen and Houston is a team that know this all to well. Look at their history with Yao. Their often injured Chinese superstar was on the verge of bigger and better things. He was developing into one of the best talents in the league only to have it taken away from him with his all too frequent injuries. What does a team need when their superstar is out injured? Depth. Veteran depth. A veteran who is always willing to step up when called upon and do what is right for the team. When Yao was injured it was everybody’s favourite finger wagging, shot blocking, always smiling centre Dikembe Mutombo. I can see Camby playing a similar role for Dwight.

Knicks To Trade Novak, Camby For Bargnani

According to the New York Times, The New York Knicks are working on finalising a trade with the Toronto Raptors that would send Steve Novak, Marcus Camby and future draft picks to Toronto in exchange for Andrea Bargnani. The deal would see the Knicks take on the remaining $23 million/2 year contract of the Italian big man. Novak and Camby will earn roughly $8.7 million next season.

The Raptors are generally seen as the winners of this trade, by clearing a little cap space and losing that big contract of the under performing Bargnani they are in a better position moving forward. The Knicks will see their luxury tax increase if the trade goes ahead.

Update – The League has yet to approve this trade and it will need to be revised to include the 2013-14 seasons salaries. According to most sources, both teams are still keen to make the trade happen.

Stoudemire To Miss 6 Weeks

Bad news for the New York Knicks today as Amare Stoudemire has been ruled out for at least the first 6 weeks of the NBA season, due to kick off tomorrow.

Stoudemire suffered a ruptured cyst in his knee last week in a preseason game against the Toronto Raptors and was initially only diagnosed as having to miss 3-4 weeks at most, but as the pain increased in his knee, so did his need of a second opinion. Following a consultation with a former doctor of Stoudemire, it was concluded that the rupture had caused more damage than first thought, and more rest was required for the knee to fully heal.

This is a huge blow to the Knicks who are currently dealing with injuries to Tyson Chandler and Marcus Camby, as well as working out their rotations for their first match up against fellow New York team the Brooklyn Nets on Friday (Aus time). Stoudemire’s injury could potentially sideline him for high priority games against Miami, Philadelphia and other playoff predicted teams.
